Every month, Orangewood rounds up the freshest new songs on our playlists. Here are our favorite tracks from June, in no particular order.
"Animal Noises" —beabadoobee
Flashback: it's the turn of the century, school's out, teenagers are wearing oversized jeans, and the golden era of shoegaze had just passed. Look up and you might find things aren't too different today, as exemplified by beabadoobee's release, Our Extended Play. Made in collaboration with The 1975, this album channels Y2K pop through today's rose-colored lenses for the best of both eras.
"Going Going Gone" — Lucy Dacus
What do Julien Baker’s dog 'Beans', Mitski, and Phoebe Bridgers have in common? They all assist in backing vocals for Lucy Dacus' cozy, new song, “Going Going Gone.” A quiet acoustic moment off the new record, Dacus' music plays out like an intimate diary entry. It’s the perfect soundtrack to transport through your own nostalgia, jumping right into the warmth and awkwardness of middle school dances.
"Un Millón" — The Marías
The Marías lead single, “Un Millón," is a hypnotizing, hushed groove to get swept away in. Led by singer María, the song’s reggaeton and rhythm influencers are inspired by her Puerto Rican birthplace. “I wanted to pay homage to the island and its music and people,” she says in a statement, “so in the song I’m calling out some of the places I used to go visit with my family when I was little.” For the full trancelike experience, check out The Marías debut album CINEMA, released today.
