Every month, Orangewood rounds up the freshest new songs on our playlists. Here are our favorite tracks from July, in no particular order.
"Steam" —Leon Bridges
Leon Bridges just dropped his third album, Gold-Diggers Sound, named for the East Hollywood studio where the album was created. After many repeat album listens, we can’t get “Steam” out of our heads. A silky-smooth groove track, it's the perfect energy to lift you from you chair straight into Friday night.
"Hold U" — Indigo De Souza
Indigo De Souza burst onto the scene in 2018 with her no-skips album, I Love My Mom. The debut album provoked both tears of joy and tears of anger; "Hold U," however, has us out of our seats and bobbing our head. With De Souza's signature falsettos combines with an upbeat track to form a fun summer song we hope to hear on the dance floor.
"Unclean mind" — Grouper
As Grouper, Liz Harris has been consistently creating some of the best ambient folk since 2005. Her typically lush and enveloping sonic landscapes are set aside in favor of a driving acoustic guitar on her latest single, ahead of her upcoming album Shade. Harris' vocals compliment her gentle strumming perfectly on this track, leaving us stunned; "Unclean mind" is a promising harbinger for Grouper's next album.
