Oliver Mahogany

I heard a lot about this brand but I was skeptical as I'd never purchased a guitar online or without playing it first. I took a chance with one of their lower priced models to see if they are as good as the reviews make them out to be. I was pleasantly surprised! This is a very nice guitar for the price! As many reviewers have raved about, the setup out of the box was near perfect for me. Build quality was excellent - I found no workmanship flaws at all. It is very responsive and plays better than just about any of my other guitars that I've spent years tweaking to be just as I want them. As far as the overall tone quality, I'm not going to rave about it and say this model compares to Taylor, Martin, etc... but it is excellent compared to others in this price class and materials. The only thing negative I can say about it is that it visually is just boring. I'm not a fan of the graphic on the headstock or the black tuners and accents. That's just a personal opinion, but my fingers don't care as I'm playing it :-). This one will definitely be one of the first I reach for as my daily banger. It has definitely given me reason to give their higher end models a hard look.

neck feels real nice! awesome tone! super affordable!

Impressive Jr guitar

I purchased the Oliver Jr for a grandson to begin learning. When it arrived, I spent time playing it and checking out the intonation, tone and playability. The more I played, the more impressive it became. This is a very nice value in a beginner, junior size!

Love this guitar!

Finally found a guitar that suits my liking and my budget! The Oliver Jr. Mahogany, great sound and quite good looking i must say!

Well made. Well sounding.

I've built a couple of acoustics from scratch and I think I have an understanding of what goes into a guitar build better than many. I wanted a short scale, small body, mahagony acoustic. The Oliver Jr. is just about what I envisioned. I'm older pushing 70 and building a guitar with these specs. was more work than I wanted to do. I'm pleased with the build quality. I don"t believe the laminate sides and back detract from the sound quality and the solid mahagony top gives a well balanced sound for a small guitar. My only personal issue is the setup. For me I like very low clearance across the first fret. I like to play a bar F chord with little effort and the nut as it came from the factory looks like their is ample room to file the slots to tweak the action to my preference and maybe lowering the saddle 1/32 or 1/16 might be beneficial. My brother who is older and a life long player had no issues with the guitar setup as it recieved but he has larger and maybe stronger hands. So the point is set up is a very personal thing and your not getting a guitar set up for you but I believe you can be confident the guitar was inspected and there was no issues. I own a professional set fret files so I will tweak the nut sometime in the near future and decide about the saddle. I got my Oliver Jr. just before the price increase but even still as I have told others the materials to build would cost near the cost of the guitar.
