Berkeley guitar

Sounds great and perfect setup. Very fun to play. Only complaint are a couple of small stains to the spruce top. Other than the small blemishes it looks and plays fantastic

The “Almost” Perfect Guitar

Please don’t let the title fool you into the misleading idea that this isn’t my favorite guitar, because in only three weeks of ownership and 24 plus years playing guitar, it absolutely is. The tone, the action, the smoothness of play, and the overall feel of this guitar are all second to none. The only “however” is simple: the back and sides are made of Pau Ferro which offers a superb tone and timbre but sadly mine has two very large cracks which have been obviously noted then repaired, then sealed and finished to be covered over. Both cracks are in excess of 4 inches and are definitely a result of the drying of the wood, whether kiln dried or other form, and were attempted to be “filled” and planed. Sadly the imperfection causes the thin finish (which I love and feel like adds better sound characteristics) to rise and contour to the imperfections leaving noticeable “veins”. Now that I’ve made it sound terrible I have to admit that this is more of a character trait of the guitar and not something that in any manner affects the sound and feel of an otherwise beautiful, and “ALMOST” perfect instrument. You have done a wonderful job Orangewood and nothing will keep me from recommending these guitars to others, but I was surprised that a B stock of wood was used in the highest family of your products, but for the price, this guitarist is a happy camper. Thank you so very much.

This is the best sounding guitar I’ve ever owned and I’ve played for 25 years owned over 30 or more guitars

My New Berkeley

I have had my Berkeley a week now.
I try to play it everyday. I do enjoy it. I have several Highend American made Guitars; I place the sound right there with them. Also wonderfully made and clean on details.

Thank you for your review! We're so glad you're enjoying your Berkeley!

Comely and Toneful Instrument

I was initially impressed by the looks of the guitar, the fine set up and geometry (note the tall saddle but low action which gives you tons of room for adjustment, if necessary) but at the end of day one I was feeling disappointed in the tone. The guitar was pretty tight and I wasn't getting the booming bass and treble zing I expected from a rosewood type b&s.
But, I kept playing it and after a few days it really started to sing. After a few weeks, it's a really lively guitar and I am very pleased with it. Nice round trebles and plenty of low end without getting muddy and eminently playable. I even put 10-52 (super light) strings on it because I'm used to playing electric and it still has plenty of volume and sweet tone.
Berkeley is an excellent guitar at any price but for under $1,000, it is pretty amazing. I may get a concert size (Sierra?) as well as I've been thinking about getting a a smaller body guitar.
Thank you, Orangewood, for making a great and affordable guitar!
