New Wood, Vintage Tone

Roasting spruce speeds up its natural aging process, delivering a played-in, old-school tone. This torrefaction process removes excess moisture, making the guitar more resistant to overall atmospheric changes—perfect for tonal consistency.

The Golden Age

With retro charm and a contemporary build, the Highland Collection captures a timelessness that never goes out of style. From the Grover open-gear tuners to the herringbone details, every element is crafted with care.

Set Up in Los Angeles

Professionally set up before shipping, your guitar arrives ready to play—with fresh strings and a durable hard case included.

Love Orangewood.

I have a 1962 Barton D 28 that is recently been completely restored at the Martin factory. I love it but I find myself picking up my Julianne black or my Oliver Junior most often. I’ve learned to like smaller and easier to handle Guitars. When I pick up my Martin, I feel like I’m picking up a cello. the Julian Black is the most awesome looking and playing guitar I’ve ever owned that cost under $2000. It’s a freaking $600 guitar and a blind test would have it valued it much much higher by even the greatest guitar players.

Great Guitar

This guitar has single-handedly inspired me to start learning the guitar parts to both Mark Knopfler's Get Lucky and Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant Massacree. No other guitar I've played has made me learn songs, but those two songs just fit so well on the Julian Black. The guitar sounds incredible, with a bright, resonant sound, and sounds great for finger-picking and strumming alike. My first every steel-string acoustic, 10/10, would buy again.

Top Wood Guide

Spruce

A classic tonewood for acoustic guitars, spruce is a well-rounded, durable wood that’s suitable for many styles of playing.

Torrefied Spruce

A vintage-inspired upgrade, torrefied spruce is roasted to remove excess moisture, so the guitar continues to play at peak performance.

Mahogany

A common tonewood for top, back, and sides, Mahogany is known for its clarity and evenness to accentuate the mid-range tones.

Cedar

An excellent topwood for classical guitars, cedar is perfect for delicate playing styles, like fingerpicking and soft strumming.
