I got my Ava Mahogany a few weeks ago and I love it to bits. The sustain of the instrument is spectacular. The sound quality is amazing and has such a beautiful warm tone to it. Love playing it as much as I can. Would highly recommend.
I purchased the Ava mahogany model and I couldn’t have been any more pleased! The tone is gorgeous and the construction is even better. All the other reviews were correct, the guitar really did come set up perfectly when I received it. I plan to own many more Orangewood’s in the future!
The Ava Mahogany has got an even, balanced warm tone, with the the highest end reigned in (think slight compression) to remove any shrill sounds you might hear on some non-mahogany tops. I'd describe it as producing an appealing mellow but still articulate tone. With it's smaller body compared to my dreadnought, It's that much more comfortable for long playing sessions, and the body size definitely plays a role in giving its balanced sound.
For you setup nerds, It came well setup with the nut height just above fret height (avg. .007" first fret height under all strings, with a capo on the 3rd). The 12th fret height was avg. .07" under all strings. Any beginners thinking of giving up because their guitar is too hard to play, try an Ava first.
My only nit pick is that mine has a very tiny pin-hole imperfection at the edge of the bridge and a rough spot at the back of the neck, around the 9th fret, but otherwise a nicely smooth satin neck, that I should be able to buff out.
I'd shame Orangewood QC if this was a $1,500 guitar, and not enough of an issue to pay the $15 ship back to replace it. With an online only model, Orangewood's QC will be a prime metric paving their future.
I am not a pro but I have played quite a few of guitars. This guitar is very well made, I mean it and is very light which can tell the quality of materials / bonding. Sound wise, I would say it will change the more you play but right out of a box, it sounds as good as my Yamaha if not better.
Amazing part is, I got this guitar on sale offer and is suppose to have some imperfection, but turns out the only imperfection it got is one missing knuckle on case, case itself is of very high quality.
My only regret is I wasnt aware of the sale season so as soon as I got this, they scraped the rest of the guitars off the sale which was still available there. I was eyeing on Sage one but next day I find they stopped the sale altogether. Definitely worth the price !!! Thanks guys.
