Oliver Jr. Mahogany Live

Thanks for your review, Max! Welcome to the Orangewood family!

My main guitar

I'm playing mostly short scale guitars now.

My #1 used to be my Taylor GS Mini Koa Plus but now I'm reaching for my Oliver Jr Live almost all the time. BTW the dimensions of the Oliver Jr and Taylor GS Mini are almost exactly the same. The Taylor low string sounds a bit better than the Oliver. The Taylor is better strummed while the Oliver Jr is better for fingerpicking.

The Oliver Jr is the most comfortable guitar I've ever played.

It comes with approximately 170 ft lbs strings on it and I replace those with Thomastik 125 ft lbs which sounds better and makes it easier to play. I'm jacked into a 5 watt amp 90% of the time - the Oliver sounds best when plugged in, by a mile.

The price is great and even better if you can find a used Oliver. I have 3 Oliver Jr's. All three were used and in great shape. Two are "Live" and the 3rd was not but I put a K&K Classical Pickup in it and it sounds the best of all 3. One is DADGAD and I needed to put a heavier 6th string on it. It's sadly comical that I've had so many expensive guitars over the years and I end up playing/loving a $200 guitar.

You should get your hands on one of these - especially if your heart is set on the Taylor GS Mini.

Great guitar, I love it. I can see some small blemishes in the finish and build, but nothing that seems to impact the playability. I love It, would buy it again even with faults. Great small guitar, big tone and very comfortable to play

I LOVE my Oliver Jr Live!

When I initially ordered this guitar, I was shipped the wrong one :( Orangewood sent me the regular Oliver Jr (without the electric pick-up). They also didn’t include the pick guard. HOWEVER, after contacting their support team, they quickly escalated my order and issued me a return label. I shipped the guitar back and they shipped me back the correct one along with a little gift for the mistake. After receiving my Oliver Jr Live, I’ve played it almost EVERY day. In my opinion, it even played better than the original one they sent me. It felt and sounded more “broken in”. I love this mini guitar and the bright sound that it offers. It’s a great and lightweight guitar to carry on vacation or for small intimate settings. I own a Martin Series X. While I enjoy the Martins large, deeper/richer sound, the Orangewood Oliver Jr is a great alternative when you want something lighter, brighter, and easier to play. :)

Thank you for working with us and for submitting a review! We're so glad to hear that you're happy with your Oliver Jr!

Great guitar!

I purchased this guitar because I needed a smaller and cheaper option for the times when I am asked to lead worship in places where taking my full-size Taylor is difficult. I have been blown away by the sound! Whether I am just relaxing on the couch or leading worship in a random park here in the DR, this guitar never disappoints. I am very, very pleased with this purchase.
