Second Time Around

This is my second Orangewood. I tested the waters with an excellent Oliver Jr. Mahogany. I wanted to add a jumbo guitar to my collection, but I did not plan to use it very often. Paying $2,000. for a very basic Gibson model was not part of my plan. The Duke Live was on sale for $420., so you must allow some leeway for a review. I have rated the major areas in this regard:
Appearance 5
Construction 5
Playability 5
Electronics 5 (very good bass response when plugged in)
Setup in California 3 (replaced saddle which was far too low)
Overall sound 4 (improved with Bluegrass Phosphor Bronze
Portland Acoustics strings to a level 5 for its price range)
Average 4.5

Overall, a very good value for the money. With the minor changes, it is now at a level 5 for its price range.

What a Beauty !!!

Been following Orangewood guitars since they opened shop and marveled at the reviews that were being given. After almost 3 years I couldn't wait any longer to see for myself. The Duke was the tipping point...I wanted a Jumbo and I wanted to own an Orangewood. Been playing sine 1969 at 13 years of age and have owned many guitars...The Duke is an excellent example of being able to own an affordable HIGH quality musical instrument that looks, feels, plays and sounds like a guitar worth 3 times the cost. BRAVO !!!

IMPRESSED!!

OK I dont usually write reviews but I couldnt resist. I have had many guitars over the years, and I am very impressed with my Duke. At first I thought it sounded a little thin but after I put my Elixers on it, all was good. this guitar rocks! Beautiful, plays easily and sounds great. I read all the reviews online etc and was still a little skeptical but tghis guitar is my new best friend I love it!!! Great job Orangewood!! Hoping to get another one soon!!

Meh

I'll start with saying up front that this really is a nice guitar and is built very well. I'm impressed with orangewood as a whole but this particular model isn't for me.
I was in the market for a jumbo expecting a very full , clear sound with strong bass and midrange. The Duke has so so bass and seems to have spots in the midrange where tone and volume dissipate very quickly. Simply put it just didn't meet my expectations. And to be fair, my expectations may as much of problem as anything.
All and all, this IS a nice instrument and very beautiful. But if I could do it again I would've purchased the Hudson.
