Was looking for a "smaller" guitar to re-begin/re-learn after many, many years. Considered a Taylor GS Mini-e, Martin LX1e and various acoustic-electric "parlor" guitars. After watching way too many YouTube guitar reviews and reading acoustic guitar forums, I decided to order the Brooklyn Jr. Live. There were no reviews at the time I ordered it, but other models had several sponsored and independent reviews which were generally quite favorable.
++ The size is just what I wanted and I'm quite pleased with its tone. Its "playability" was great out of the box. The Fishman EQ works well. The fit and finish is good and the case is a nice addition.
-- I was a bit disappointed to find the top has two, semi-symmetrical "bear claws" between the bridge and sound hole. Some see these as blemishes, others as distinguishing marks adding character. Even though these are natually occurring, I'm not a fan. I contacted Orangewood and they ok'd an exchange but could not guarantee another would not have "bear claws." Because the marks are relatively unobtrusive, don't affect the tone or integrity of the top, I'm not going to exchange it. This is the downside of ordering "sight unseen." (If there were no "bear claws" I would have given it 5 stars.)
= = Cost, tone and playability were my top three criteria and the Brooklyn Jr. Live checks all of those boxes. I find myself picking it up several times a day because it is just a joy to play. Would I recommend this to a friend? Definitely.
I would start of by saying this Guitar is fantastic. Good tone, good playability, great looks and all around a good instrument. Bag is nice and Tuners are reliable.
I was a bit skeptical when buying this guitar since it came with a Fishmen EQ system. I’m coming from guitars that use LR Baggs which are just amazing and I was really not to excited to find out the the Brooklyn Jr would have a Eq system especially since it was a fishmen. But let me say it really did not disappoint! It is a great Pickup to just cut straight through the mix something some LR baggs mics can’t do to well. I feel like you definitely can lose the personality of the guitar but nonetheless it still sounds just amazing !
The sound on this guitar is very good for a instrument with just a Solid top. I have a 2k Martin and the sound on that thing is really the best it gets ! Compared to the Martin the all around volume is definitely lower With the Brooklyn Jr since it’s a smaller body but the sound that comes out of it is amazing. The Brooklyn Jr really did impress me !
This is the only aspect of the guitar I didn’t like. The quality control for this instrument is okay. The back line is a bit off center and some of the paint didn’t come out super well but still the guitsr is amazing and I would highly recommend!!!
