Great bass tones, thin on the highs. Poor tuning machines. Had to lower the string set-up. Definitely worth the price.
Hugo baritone: very attractive instrument, nice tone; however, the nut is quite high, accompanied with string binding within the nut slots. This results in difficulty keeping in tune. Low B & F# are very sharp at the 12th fret. It will require some setting up. The string action is quite high as a result of the nut. I was hoping for the low action set up advertised. With a proper professional set up, it will be quite nice.
Update: had a set up; lower action: and put on Elixir baritone strings resulting in improved tone and playability. Also, stays in tune much better.
When I bought this guitar, I was a bit skeptical because I had never owned a baritone acoustic guitar before so I didn't really know what I was in for. I had waited months for this guitar to be restocked and finally, that day came and I purchased it immediately. When I first opened the packaging, I could tell right away that this was a quality purchase for the price point. Once I became familiar with the tuning and where to play certain songs, I became hooked. It also sounds amazing plugged in with the pickups that are installed. I would highly recommend this guitar to any player looking to add some tone variety to their arsenal.
This is my first Orangewood... There are several different brands of guitars at my house. Some more expensive than others. I’ve been reading a lot lately on the Orangewood guitars. I also have been wanting a baritone guitar and have played many brands of baritones from $300 to $3000. I was looking at the Hugo and thought for the price, why not. I received it from across the county in about 5 days, and when I unboxed it’s and strummed it, I was pleasantly surprised. The build quality and tone was more than I was expecting. My son, who also plays, said “Man, this thing is solid!” It was setup and plays well. That deep balanced tone is great. The tuners are ok on it and I’m not a huge fan of the Ernie Balls that are on it but, all in all, value for money...I’m sold on Orangewood. Definitely would buy again from them!
