I've been playing for over 30 years now, seriously the last 15. I have coveted a high-end guitar for years and just could not pull the trigger. Spending hours in humidity-controlled rooms strumming the offerings of the greats. This Hudson plays/sounds awesome. Better than their mid-line offerings well over a grand. Don't be scared
The Hudson Live I received looks and sounds great. Small issue with the LR Baggs Anthem pickup but only because I was unaware.
The spruce top is much lighter color than expected but they do say color varies. It looks nice and is growing on me. The matte finish and detail are excellent. The open back vintage looking tuners and the quality of the hard case were a pleasant surprise. The action is very good, no buzzing, plays well and sounds really good. It sounds as good, if not better, than the Martin D-12E. The quality of the sound, craftsmanship, look, feel, included hard case, and acoustic pic ups make this a much better product for your money than any of the sub 2k Martin or Taylor models.
My only issue is with the LR Baggs Anthem pickup. The mic level was a little too bright for me out of the box. Using the provided tool and instructions, I adjusted it down a bit and now the lows are now a bit more prominent. Be aware that although the LR Baggs Anthem is a nice pickup system and does a great job of accurately replicating the sound of the guitar the output level is typically 10-12dB lower than other pickups on the market. Depending on the mixer board you connect to you may need to purchase a pre-amp if performing live. Also, not a fan of LR Baggs battery bag for the Anthem. I think Orangewood could add even more value with a little customization by adding a battery box for the 9v battery that is accessible from the outside vice the bag method. This would set them apart and make it much easier to change the battery.
Overall I am very happy with the Hudson Live. You really get a lot of value for the money.
The hudson live is perfect. It has bright tones and warm deep tones throughout the guitar. Its so easy to play and its the best price for a completely solid wood guitar! Im definitely gonna buy another guitar from here!
